Chairman’s report:

The club has had a successful year, we have been made very welcome in the Carman centre in Renton, and we now have a proper radio shack with antennas erected and fully functional

We have had much success with courses and three of our members are now in possession of an advanced amateur radio callsign, two other members of the community have passed the foundation course, congratulations to all

It was proposed a weekend course in response to demand, but, unfortunately this demand did not materialize and so the weekend courses did not take place.

The club has not done much operating over the year, but, it is hoped to correct that in the coming year

We have enjoyed a number of interesting talks from other amateurs and would like to thank them for their time

The club has also purchased D.F kits for 3.5 MHz band they are being assembled by club members

Any other business

Paul suggested that new members should be introduced to the club by existing members and so gain a modicum of control over membership.

In this respect the Club constitution says: “Membership shall be open, subject to the discretion of the committee, to all persons interested in the aims of the club” and “All members shall abide by the constitution of the club.  The committee shall have power to expel any member whose conduct, in the opinion of at least three-quarters of the full committee, renders that person unfit to be a member of the club.  No member shall be expelled without first having been given an opportunity to appear before the committee.”

This provides the level of protection that Paul is seeking.  It must also be remembered that the club is bound by the rules of the centre as long as we enjoy the use of it and one of these conditions is that as a social inclusion centre access to the club must be open to all.

There followed a lively discussion on the subject.

There was a proposal that the club should get involved in data modes, the meeting agreed to beg, borrow or purchase the necessary equipment to do so.

There was a suggestion that the club should affiliate with the ARRL (American Radio Relay League)

And get their magazine and other benefits of affiliation, also, to subscribe to the magazines “Radio today” and “Practical Wireless” no firm conclusion was reached until it has been looked into.

The meeting was closed by the Chairman at 20.30hrs
